Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy in which a practitioner uses light pressure and movement over the abdomen, rib cage, or other areas of the body. It is commonly offered by some osteopaths and manual therapists.

The word visceral refers to the internal organs, including structures such as the stomach, intestines, liver, and bladder.

The approach is based on the idea that organs naturally move as a person breathes, digests food, and changes posture. Practitioners aim to identify areas they perceive as restricted and use gentle touch to work with the mobility of the organs and surrounding connective tissues.

The theory behind Visceral Manipulation is not the same as proven medical effectiveness. Scientific evidence that manually manipulating internal organs produces meaningful health benefits remains limited.
